Finding a Good Dermatologist

Whether you're having skin problems or would simply like to improve your present skin tone, you need to find a good dermatologist. Yes, not just a dermatologist, but a good one. You may think all of them are the same. Not at all. In fact, any doctor can treat your skin, but it takes a specialist - someone who has studied additional years and taken stringent certifying exams in dermatology - to truly make a difference.

So how do you know what makes a good dermatology boca raton dermatologist? Let's start with the most basic - a license and credentials. If you meet someone who's dazzling yet without a license, don't even bother to check for credentials. They're probably fake anyway. If you're sure the dermatologist you're considering has a license, then check if he's certified by the American Board of Dermatology or the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. Remember, these boards have very high certification standards, so if a dermatologist is ABD or ASDS-certified, you can rest assured he's a good candidate.

Another thing you'd like to be careful about is a dermatologist who seems too eager to sell you all kinds of skin products. Not that clinics with their own line of skin remedies are automatically bad. But you have to take note of those where the business side of the practice seems to be more dominant. First and foremost, a dermatologist should be a medical specialist whose expertise is the skin. If he sells his own array of skin products, that should take a backseat to the service he provides his patients.

Of course, there's also the logistics aspect of choosing a dermatology boca raton dermatologist. Can you afford his fees? Is the clinic close to your workplace or home? This can be particularly important if your treatment is continuous. Some treatments are done in stages, which means you have to come back to the clinic a number of times before they are completed. If you have to travel far and wide to see your dermatologist, that that's going to be a problem.

Finally, whether you like it or not, you have to like your dermatologist. You don't have to be best friends, but you should at least be comfortable around the person. If you have a problem with your dermatologist, you might keep postponing your visits. You may even cancel all plans of going to the clinic while your skin problems get worse. Remember, doctor-patient relationships can be crucial to the success of any treatment.
